Assessment and grading
Students are expected to attend at least 80% of classes (including lectures, small group tutorials or laboratories). Students may receive a fail grade if their attendance is not satisfactory.
A satisfactory standard must be attained in a number of assessment procedures. Final grades are given on the basis of assigned written work and tests, participation in class or laboratory attendance and final examinations as appropriate. Most, but not all, undergraduate courses involve an examination, usually held at the end of the course. The weight applied to each assessment procedure varies from course to course.
Students are taught and graded in line with standards applicable to their fellow Australian students. The following chart provides an indication of the grades at UNSW and how they might compare to a 4-point GPA system in the USA. |
