What you can enrol in
Students in the Semester Program are required to be enrolled in a minimum of 24 units of credit (UOC) per semester. Most courses at UNSW are weighted at 6UOC, so for a typical full-time enrolment, you will be enrolled in four courses in one semester.
Subject to a few restrictions, you can choose to study almost any course at UNSW as long as you have the necessary prerequisite knowledge. Your academic transcript will be sent to the relevant academic authority where required to determine whether you have the necessary academic background.
Students wishing to study at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) need to be aware of some important differences, outlined here.
UNSW Online Handbook
The UNSW Online Handbook is an up-to-date reference of all courses currently offered by UNSW. Because not all courses are offered in both Semester 1 and Semester 2 each year, it is a good idea to also check the UNSW Online Timetable for course availability.
In the UNSW Online Timetable, the timetable for Semester 1 is posted in mid-November, and the timetable for Semester 2 is posted in late April. By looking through these two sites, you will be able to choose courses and have an idea of your timetable before you arrive in Sydney.

Applying to Study Abroad Semester Program
You should check if your home university has a partner university agreement with UNSW Study Abroad. If it is a partner institution, you will need to apply through your home university's Study Abroad or International Office. If your home university is not a partner institution, you can apply directly to UNSW Study Abroad by downloading the application form on the left side of this webpage. Alternatively, you can arrange your application through one of our representatives.
English language requirements
If your current studies are not taught solely in English, you also need to meet the standard UNSW English language requirements. How to apply
Your application needs to be accompanied by your academic transcript. If your original documents are not in English, you will also need to provide certified translations of your transcripts.
You will also need to nominate on your application form the courses that you would like to enrol in at UNSW. See the grey box at the top of this page for links to the UNSW Online Handbook and UNSW Online Timetable that will assist you to select courses.
Nominating courses that are being offered will significantly reduce the processing time of your application. If your nominated courses are not available, you will be able to amend your choices up until the end of Week 1 of the start of Semester.
You will receive email confirmation of receipt of your application within three weeks of submitting your application.

Application deadlines
Places in the program are offered to eligible applicants on a rolling admission basis until all places have been filled. Students should apply at least five weeks before the start of semester to allow time for administration and student visa processing.
Students from countries classified as Assessment Levels 2 - 4 will need to apply earlier to allow for more time for visa processing. Visa processing for students from Assessment Level 4 countries may take up to six months.

What happens next?
If your application is successful, you will receive a letter of offer with detailed instructions for accepting the offer. In order to accept an offer, you will need to return the signed acceptance form that accompanies the letter of offer.
Once your acceptance has been received, you will be issued with a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). You will need the CoE to apply for your Student Visa. Applicants who accept their offer will also receive a pre-departure package with detailed information about obtaining a student visa, organising accommodation, making tuition fee payments, requesting an airport pick-up, organising a local mobile phone, and other handy information to help prepare you for your studies abroad.

Transferring credits back home
If you intend to transfer credits back to your degree, your university or college will need to approve your enrolment as a Study Abroad student at the University of New South Wales.
If your home university is not a partner institution, it is advisable that you obtain confirmation in writing from your home institution that courses studied at UNSW will be recognised and are transferable to your current study program. If your home institution does not have a dedicated Study Abroad or International Office, it may be best to check with the person or office responsible for administering the rules of your degree.
There is a Statement from your university or college form at the back of the Semester Program application form on the left side of the top of this web page. This form may assist in obtaining written confirmation from your home institution.
